The Trauma of Daenerys Targaryen

As Game of Thrones has grown in popularity I’ve noticed people start to talk about it like a sports match. Lots of chatter about who is going to “win,” intrigue over who will take down who, which…

How to keep your heart healthy when heart disease runs in your family.

Does Heart Disease run in your family? Or do you just want to keep your heart healthy? I was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease at three years of age. A lot of my ancestors have died from heart troubles, so it kind of runs in my family. According to “Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” heart disease is the number one leading cause of death. As you may know, your heart is a very important muscle. Without it, you’d die. Whether or not heart disease runs in your family, here are some ways to keep your heart healthy.

If you eat healthily and exercise, it can lower your risk of heart disease. Try to eat more fruits, vegetables, and foods with whole grains and healthy protein. You should also try to eat less food with added sugar, calories, and unhealthy fats. If you exercise for 30–60 minutes a day, you can keep your heart healthy.

People who are overweight or obese have a high chance of heart disease. Exercise every day! If you don’t like to exercise like me, try just walking, or dancing, something you love that involves physical activity. Like I said before, 30–60 minutes a day of physical activity is all that’s needed. If you think you don’t have time, you actually do. Make a schedule, do something when you wake up before you do work, mow the grass, walk, before you go to sleep. Don’t let anything stop you from getting 30–60 minutes a day of physical activity.

According to “CDC,” Smoking increases the formation of plaque in blood vessels. Coronary Heart Disease occurs when arteries that carry blood to the heart muscle are narrowed by plaque or blocked by clots. Chemicals in cigarette smoke cause the blood to thicken and form clots inside veins and arteries. Even being around smoke can hurt the heart. I have to get my heart checked every 5 years, and the doctors even tell me to stay away from smoke. If you need help to stop smoking call 800-QUIT-NOW which is 800–784–8669.

Yes, stress can increase your risk of heart disease. It states in “the University of Rochester Medical Center” “Studies suggest that the high levels of cortisol from long-term stress can increase blood cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar, and blood pressure.” Those are common risk factors for heart disease. Call the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)if you need help for stress management, 1–800–950-NAMI (6264).

If your cholesterol and blood pressure are high, it can clog your arteries. If you take medicines like Atorvastatin, Fluvastatin, Lovastatin, Pitavastatin, etc. can help you control your cholesterol. Exercising and eating well can also help.

In conclusion, stay healthy, and keep your heart healthy.
