Things that make you happy

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on hipsters…

But what really makes me happy is when my daughter texts me outta the blue with a little win. Or the noticeable calming of my jagged little nervous system while I walk beside the Animas River with my doggo.

Rain is good because the soil sings its gratitude when the drops just begin to drum down, sending up aromatherapy that reminds me of my energetic roots to the land.

A well-placed nap in the afternoon feels happy. I like the dreams I have during the day. They seem to have a different texture and lucidity than dream journeys at night.

The big, bright, yellow sun brings a happiness factor that only a benevolent god can provide. Sol shines and I lift up my chin, eyes closed in reverence and to shield myself from its nuclear-reactor love. Sunshine feeds us and I’m clothed in its warmth.

Live music is a joy. When the juju is just right, they become rituals. A concert at Red Rocks becomes a circle of power as all of us love on the performers with claps and whoops. They make their sacred musical offering as we dance and sway and play. Make a joyful noise!

My greatest well of happiness is loved ones. That’s because they bring consistent connection, learning, support and love to this spiral dance of life. Feeling Oneness, shunning division, I know I’m not just a little lonesome loser.
