Why I hate Udacity Nanodegree model ?

The program required us to complete the course by some fixed time (i think 3 months). My belief was that if I dont finish the coursework by that stipulated time, I wont be granted a certificate of completion (I thought was fine because I was more interested in learning from some well curated course contents).

In other-words - I always thought that I would have access to the course contents (mainly videos), web-pages and assignments.

But in due course I realized that if you do not complete the course by the end date, they remove your access to the course lectures and web-pages.

But their Nanodegree model is quite the antithesis of the aforementioned vision. It is NOT flexible — you cant learn at your own pace, they lock you out after 3 months (perhaps in the hope that you would again pay and retake ?).

After-all if you pay and buy a text book (for a course in college), you can always go back and refer to it when needed (even if the course term for which you bought the text book has been long over, irrespective of whether you have passed or failed the course). From that perspective the Nano-degree model seems really arcane, greedy and in-flexible.

I tried reasoning with their support to find a win-win solution, however they always gave me some canned response urging me to pay again for the next term.

That said I love capitalism — so I don’t mind Udacity charging for their excellent course and making money. My only objection is to the fact that they advertise flexibility and give you the opposite of that.
