The Rebellion Fantasy

From a very young age our minds are conditioned in the “rule-following” social fabric and majority of us abide to this by the threat of punishment, fear or social stature.

Unknowingly in our subconscious the fantasy of the rebellion keeps its place alive. There are some avenues where we get closest to this, but actually, are far from reality. In our dreams.

The other avenue which is so very close to dreams is Movies. This “make believe” medium has made a powerful impact on our upbringing and to keep those fantasies alive. The younger the age, the involvement to get engrossed in the movie is more. As we age we have seen much of the world’s reality and have been ridiculed by our friends on “Oh you didn’t know that?” incidents, our minds get conditioned and judges the “make believe” from reality and then the effect it makes on our mind reduces.

A Rebellion character and the impact it makes on us, allowing us to appreciate and identify with the rebellious character, does not need any age restriction.

Movie makers have cashed in on this “weakness” of the mind to give us a fantastic two hour joyride. From the earliest I could think The Great Train Robbery to the more recent ones. When one movie was not enough, sequels started coming and these sequels extended the fantasy just that little longer.

Sequels became so big, they became franchises. Take Fast and Furious, National Treasure, The Transporter, just to mention a few.

The grip and attention these movies have on people has certainly a very deep connection to the subconscious oppressed mind of not able to go on a path that is considered “wrong” in social terms.

Why does our mind keep such fantasies alive and why are we looking for an opening, an outburst or a way to totally feel out of bound even for a few hours?

It might be our failure to live in the present and constantly think of past or future. The “living in a moment” may not be as easy as it sounds and only to start trying we need to let go years and years of conditioning. Another reason could be that most of our lives are mundane, repetitive and lack novelty.

Just as the fantasy, when the mind seeks an adventure, an impossible feat, it looks, feels, sounds so real, but then compared to the fantastic story unfolding in front of our eyes, our life feels off-color, un-sparkling and boring.

Why?

Why does the mind identify to something which sounds too perfect to be real, an illusion and draws pleasure from it?
