TIMING.

When do I step on the gas?

When do I wait?

When do I say no?

When do I move? Stay?

When do I cultivate?

When do I go ALL-IN?

These questions are sometimes hard to answer. They require skill and methodical examination to determine which bucket you are currently in. Gas or Brake? Enter the holding pattern or go in for a landing?

A few years ago a very successful business man told me that we were growing our business too slow. He said we were slow cooking instead of grilling. And he said that we didn’t know what we were doing.

He was right about all of it.

We were slow cooking. We weren’t growing at all. And we most certainly didn’t know what we were doing.

But that’s exactly where we needed to be in that moment…

Music businesses are not like Silicon Valley startups. They take time. They take building relationships and trust and buying your way into the music business doesn’t work most of the time. We spent 3 years developing relationships, finding key team members, testing ideas, testing prices, and most importantly learning how to lead a team.

All while, all of us kept our day jobs. I drove tour buses, Micah did back flips on stage, Trevor built websites, and if we would have went ALL-IN 3 years ago, we would have failed 100%.

That being said, we are not in that phase anymore. We are in the ALL-IN phase and it is hard. Very hard. We wouldn’t have went ALL-IN a moment sooner.

So what phase are you in? What timing question are you currently asking yourself?

If you are unsure, ask smart people around you and most of all, trust your gut.
