Do You Need New Year Resolutions?

Why you may not want to tread on the path taken by most and do these instead.

The beginning of a new year has always been something to look forward to. If it has been a bad year, the new year is anticipated as a mark of a new beginning, a refreshed year with new hope of better days ahead. For those who fared better, building upon the previous year's success, it’s a new year where more life improvements in every aspect can be made. Regardless, the new year represents the aim of a better year. A new hope.

And so, at the turn of the year, like bees attracted to honey, or like monkeys see monkeys do, depending on how you see things, many of us write up a list of goals to be achieved in the new year. For most, this scenario could go on for years and years, until a day where time, age, and experiences tapered our naivety away and we no longer believe in the practice.

Is there a better idea to achieve what you want to aim for?

Instead of a list of items to achieve, I have started to focus more on building habits. Unlike an item of a checklist, which I may not think about it in a few years, or impact my life beyond that year, building habits allows me to keep building upon my life, introducing small improvements over a period of time, a habit that will influence how I lead my life, for the better, for the rest of my life. For me, that makes a more meaningful impact…
