A worm sees the world differently than we do. The same goes for a bird, a fly, or a beetle. What do these animals think of the transportation that we use and how do they see them? To them, this could…

There are a ton of tourist spots in the State of Mexico where you can go on a weekend, but do you also know that there is an important cultural heritage in this same state that almost no one knows?

Besides the well-known magical towns, the ecological parks, and the Teotihuacán Pyramids; the State of Mexico has the honour to accommodate one of the most extraordinary ruins of the WORLD.

Calixtlahuaca was inhabited mainly by Matlazincas but also by the Otomíes, Mazahuas and the Nahuas. Thanks to this great variety of indigenous cultures in this zone, you can currently see great archaeological sites; and it’s only 30 mins from the centre of Toluca!

The main one is the Ehécatl-Quetzalcóatl temple, one of the few round pyramides that is known in ALL OF THE WORLD. There are many other ruins in this archaeological site in Calixtlahuaca that still have not been explored to the fullest.

A few years ago, Toluca’s administration and the IMPLAN (Toluca’s Municipal Institute of Urban Planning) created a touristic route that included Calixtlahuaca, Cacalomacán, San Felipe Tlalmimlolpan and Tecaxic. The intention was to enhance the integration of these delegations to the urban and cultural image of Toluca; to preserve its patrimony.

They also wanted to focus on the economy of these places by fomenting this type of tourism but there has not yet been effective communication between the municipalities to be able to achieve the intended goals.

Calixtlahuaca has great touristic potential because of its outstanding archaeological ruins, its connection with the Sierra Morelos Park, the Teismó Hill, and the Tejalpa River. It also has three main highways that are a big plus.

So as you can see, this place has geographical but also cultural benefits, so why not take advantage of it?

Even though it has these resources, this delegation has so many infrastructure problems: not all people have access to necessities such as electricity or sewage (which provokes a certain level of marginalization…
